We create brands the world loves.

AI won’t save a brand that doesn’t know who it is

When we were creating the second edition of Brand Jungle, we knew we couldn’t ignore the topic of AI. Paradoxically, not because it is trendy, not because every event now feels obliged to include something about artificial intelligence, and definitely not because we believe in yet another miracle tool that will take care of brand strategy, communication and half of marketing by the end of the quarter.

The reason was much deeper. We can see more and more clearly that AI has entered the everyday work of companies faster than many brands have managed to prepare a meaningful context for it.

As organisers, we could have treated this topic as just another point on the agenda. Instead, we decided to run a workshop on brand context for AI ourselves, because this is where brand strategy, everyday brand work and technology naturally meet. Without strategy and without a clear understanding of who the brand is, who it exists for, what problem it solves, what role it wants to play in its audience’s life, how it differs from others in the category and how it makes decisions when things get difficult, AI will not become a magical support system for the brand. It will simply become a very fast producer of correct, smooth and strangely similar content.

During the workshop, we talked about AI as if it were a new employee. Highly capable, fast and ready to work from day one, but also someone who does not know the company, has never sat in on client conversations, has not heard the difficult decisions made around the boardroom table and has no idea why the brand speaks in this particular way and not another. If you give it a task, it will start working. If you do not give it context, it will start guessing.

And this is where the real problem begins.

Because when AI, our new employee, does not have all the information it needs, it reaches for what is easiest to reach for: the average of the internet, the average of the category, the average of messages it has already seen somewhere before. And that is when we so easily end up with texts about comprehensive support, a professional and individual approach, real customer needs, a combination of strategy and creativity, tradition and modernity, and tailor-made solutions. On the surface, everything seems to be in place. But after a moment, it is hard to tell whether we are reading a description of a law firm, a software house, an agency, a manufacturing company or an ambitious diet catering brand. AI is not doing this maliciously. It is simply filling the lack of context with a ready-made pattern.

The subject of brand context in AI is important, but it is not easy. This is not about learning one clever command or finding a prompt that will suddenly solve every communication problem. It is about giving the brand something solid to base its work with AI on, so that strategy is no longer a PDF saved years ago in a folder called “final_final_ultimate_v.7”, but a system of decisions that can actually be used every day.

At Rio, we have been saying for years that branding does not begin with a logo, colours or a campaign. It begins much earlier, with understanding the business, the moment the company is in, its audience, the tension it responds to and the market it operates in. Very often, it also begins with decisions that are uncomfortable, but that bring order to everything that follows: communication, offer, sales, design, website, presentations, content and, now, working with AI.

During the Brand Jungle workshop, we did not want to talk about artificial intelligence as a shiny spectacle or a magical tool that will do strategy on behalf of the brand. We wanted to show it more as a mirror that very quickly reflects what is already clear in the brand, and what has long been blurry. If the brand has no clear direction, AI will not create one for it. If the brand sounds like everyone else, AI will reveal that even faster. But if the brand has a strong backbone, its own language and a well-described context, AI can become a genuinely useful support tool in the team’s everyday work.

One sentence stayed with us after the workshop:
Before you invite AI to work on your brand, prepare proper onboarding for it. The same kind of onboarding you would give to a new person on the team - someone you genuinely want to trust.

And this conversation led us to the next step.

We created a simple tool that helps you check whether your brand gives artificial intelligence enough specific context to work with. It is not a brand audit and it is not a shortcut around strategy. It is more of a quick diagnosis that shows where your decisions have already been named, and where AI will most likely start adding things on behalf of the brand that no one consciously chose.

Answer 12 simple questions and see whether your brand has the kind of context AI can truly work with: BRAND CONTEXT

And if, after completing the test, you see that your brand context is incomplete, scattered or too intuitive, you do not need to know immediately what to do next. You can book a free 30-minute consultation with us, during which we will look at your result together and check whether the problem lies in the way your brand has been described for AI, or deeper - in the strategy that needs to be clarified and organised. It will be a short, specific conversation about where you are today, what you still need in order to work with your brand in a meaningful way, and where it is worth starting. You will find the booking link below.

Good results with AI do not start with a prompt. They start with a brand that knows who it is.
